It felt like yesterday, A’Vauntae and I were discussing her wedding details in Greensboro and her vision for her bridal portraits at the Proximity Hotel. I can’t say enough about A’Vauntea and Ryan and how much we enjoyed working with them. I would love to do the whole process over again. Humble and kind are two words that come to mind when I think of them. Their wedding was a big celebration as close friends and family joined them for their special day at the Sheraton Greensboro at Fours Seasons.

How did you meet?
We met through doing a video project with my sorority (AKA) in 2010. One day we had to edit the video along with one of my line sisters and the chemistry was so thick you could almost feel the energy. After telling Ryan this, he said he felt that same chemistry!
How did he propose? We remember it was special, please share with our audience.
Ryan proposed the day of our 3rd year anniversary at Mimi’s Café. He was acting very nervous that day and at the table. Then I told him that we should take pictures more often because we do not have a lot of pictures together. He followed up with “Yea you are right and you’re going to want to take a picture tonight”. Then he proceeded to get on one knee at the dinner table and asked me to Marry Him. It was so romantic, I CRIED of course! The one thing that I really enjoyed about that moment is that it was between US. The restaurant was nearly closing and we and another couple were the only ones there—so I got to laugh, cry, hug, and kiss my new fiancé!
Tell us about your beautiful wedding gown?
My wedding gown is made by Allure, in the “Romantic Collection”. I tried on several dresses and my actual dress is one of the first dresses I ever tried on! After hunting down a local boutique, I found it again, and needless to say, I fell in love with the dress ALL OVER AGAIN!! It reflects so much of my personality of being simple, yet elegant, conservative, yet alluring, and most all Flattering!
Tell us about your bridesmaids?
My bridesmaids are definitely a great reflection of each part of my character! My bridal party consisted of my sister, best friends, and soror. They each contributed to my wedding journey in valuable ways and I am forever grateful that they made my day special. I am very shy and conservative about things sometimes and they absolutely OPEN me up!
Tell us about his groomsmen?
Ryan’s Groomsmen consisted of his two older brothers and two older cousins. They are all New Yorkers and although one may think that Northerners are brash, these guys are the most down to earth and loyal people. They are hilarious and truly treat me like family! I am excited about having older “brothers” because I grew up as the oldest—so this should be fun!

Tell us about your flowers?
My flowers and décor consisted of a mix of candles, greenery, and small statues that went with the Grecian theme.
Was there any particular theme or style for your wedding?
The theme for our wedding was Grecian, with a focus on Agape Love. My bridesmaids all work gold laurel wreath headbands, the programs were small scrolls, and the reception table centerpieces reflected this as well.
And your cake?
Oh the Cake! Where do I start?? Delicious Bakery in Greensboro was a hit!! There were so many guests that enjoyed the variety of flavors from Simple Vanilla, to Red Velvet, Pineapple, and Strawberry. Each tier had its own design and its own flavor. The overall design of the cake included rosettes, gold and white “beads”, and flowers around the base.
What’s your favorite image from your wedding day, and why?
So many to choose from! I would say all of the “After Six” photos that we took during the night time in the lobby area, parking lot, and elevator. I just loved the creativity of it all. My favorite picture would have to be the one on the couch. It screams old school classy, black and white all day! I absolutely loved the look of it.
Tell us about your wedding photography?
Donnell is an amazing photographer! With a great interest in detail and creativity. He was always encouraging and motivating when I needed a “boost” during the photo shoot (I am very shy taking professional pictures). My husband is not a “smiler”, but he and his assistant for the day got LOTS of pictures with him smiling that were so natural and geunine. I HIGHLY recommend a Donnell Photography for your wedding portraits. My husband and I had a great experience and LOVE our photos.
Any advice for future brides?
My advice for future brides is to do what YOU want to do and enjoy the moment. Also, please select your vendors based on connection and vibes, versus price. You can try to cut corners in some places, but please do not ignore the natural connections with people because they will be with you during the most important journey in your life.
