This amazing couple originally met about 10 years ago and reconnected again through a few get-togethers with some of their close friends. They dated for two years before the David proposed on December 24th, 2014 on Christmas Eve in Durham at the same location of their engagement session. For his fiancée Nakia, it was a major surprise and she was definitely caught off guard. He set the proposal up perfectly; she was thinking they were late for lunch plans with family and friends. David knows she hates being late, so David made every possible excuse to make them late. She eventually left him behind. He somehow convinced her to turn around; it was then he proposed to her in the middle of the American Tobacco Road Campus in Durham, it was a magical moment.
I’m always humbled and blessed by the opportunity to capture special moments between two people that are in love. These days, so many of my friends are getting married and entering the most important chapters in their lives. I can remember meeting Nakia, during our days at Enloe High School and I eventually met David (also known as DJ Paradime) a few years after; having no idea they would meet one day years later and fall in love. Moments in life like this make me feel honored to be a photographer. I can remember seeing the first photo of them together as a couple on Facebook, I said to myself “they are getting married.” There is something true and honest about true love, you know it when you see it. It is my pleasure to spend a couple hours with Nakia and David during their engagement session at the American Tobacco Road Campus in Durham. I couldn’t be more excited for Nakia and David. Thank you for the opportunity to photograph your love. Take a look at some of our favorite images!
