Raleigh Engagement Photographer | Lindsey & Kevin

Bride: Lindsey Rigg, 23, Dental Assistant
Groom: Kevin Kuhl, 24, Construction Manager

I went to UNC Chapel Hill for college, my mom did as well, and my whole family are Tar Heel fans so Chapel Hill is a special place to me. Kevin went to East Carolina University, so our relationship in college was long-distance and Kevin spent a lot of time visiting me in Chapel Hill. I had just finished up school there and moved back home to Cary, NC. Kevin planned for us to go to dinner in Chapel Hill one evening- there are so many great restaurants- and I of course was all in! I didn’t know where we were going for dinner but I knew it would be good. On the way to the restaurant, Kevin suggested we stop by the Old Well, one of my favorite landmarks in Chapel Hill. We stopped there and I thought we would just take a couple of pictures and then leave. While we were there Kevin suddenly got down on one knee and proposed- I don’t even remember what he said! I think that’s actually pretty common. Funnily enough, when he pulled out the ring and opened the box upside down! Fortunately, it didn’t fall out, but we both had a good laugh before I said yes. He then told me we were going to dinner at the Carolina Inn, and when we walked in to sit at our table, my parents and brother were there waiting, so they’d all been in on it! We had a great evening.

I picked the Old Well because Lindsey went to UNC and her whole family are Tar Heel fans. I was very nervous and had planned the whole thing out in my head about how it would go but it didn’t turn out that way. I had a secret photographer lined up to meet us at the spot but I couldn’t find him in the trees around the Old Well. I finally found him and kind of stalled for a few minutes and then I got on one knee and did it. When I opened the ring box, I opened it upside down and Lindsey whispered to me “Kevin it’s upside-down” and I felt my face flush red, especially because there were 5 or 10 people at the well too. She ended up saying yes and we can both laugh about it now. After the proposal, we went to The Carolina Inn for dinner where I surprised her with her family being there. She was glowing and couldn’t stop smiling. Hands down the best day of my life and I can’t want to spend the rest of it with my true love.

We met when we were both in middle school, circa 2008. We grew up not too far from each other so coincidentally we met on the school bus. Kevin actually used to make fun of me a bit and I just remember thinking he was very loud and obnoxious. Clearly, it grew on me! We continued to go to the same schools throughout middle and high school and became friends over time, dated briefly in high school but went our separate ways for college. A couple of years later during my sophomore year at UNC and Kevin’s junior year at ECU, we reconnected and started dating again a few months later! We’ve now been together for over 3 and a half years and engaged for over a year!

Kevin and I have known each other for around 12 years now, throughout different stages of childhood, teenage years, and young adulthood. In a way, we’ve grown up with each other. We’re truly each other’s best friends and that’s the best part of our relationship!

We are both looking forward to the moment we see each other for the first time on our wedding day. We can’t wait to have it captured in our first look photos! Everyone (men included) dreams about their wedding day, so it’ll be amazing to see both of our visions come to life. We’re also excited to be able to celebrate with a few of our family and friends after not seeing them for so long because of COVID.

We had a wonderful experience at our engagement shoot! Neither of us are the most comfortable on camera, so we were both a bit nervous going into it. Donnell was quickly able to put us both at ease. We spent most of the shoot just laughing with each other and having fun.

We didn’t really choose a specific or cohesive theme to follow for our session. We chose to do our photos outdoors in the gardens at The Hall and Gardens at Landmark and I wore a fun, puffy dress that I’d had for months and never had an excuse to wear. It had a very flirty, feminine style that is so me! Kevin and I also wore jerseys from our alma maters for our pictures since college and sporting events have been such a big part of our relationship. I think our outfits spoke to our personalities and we had so much fun!

We had started planning our wedding, and unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances, those plans have changed. We are now planning to have a small ceremony with our closest family and friends on our original wedding date, June 5th, 2021, and have a reception to celebrate later in the year.
