Mynikah and Adrian’s chic champagne and blue spring wedding was a dream! Hosted at The Maxwell, a new wedding venue in Downtown Raleigh, it was a truly timeless day. Their light palette and lush decor made for a beautiful occasion that I was proud to photograph.
To prepare for the day, the two got dressed in the on-site suites. Mynikah wore a romantic strapless fit and flare wedding dress. It featured a sweetheart neckline, intricate ruching, and a tiered tulle skirt with horsehair trim. She paired it with rhinestone accessories a flowing floor-length veil. Her bridal bouquet was made up of bright white and cream-colored blooms, with lots of voluminous pampas.
Lending to their on-trend wedding look, the bridal party was dressed to complement their champagne and blue color palette. The bridesmaids wore mismatched dresses in various shades of light blue and ivory or champagne. Some even featured a high leg slit or a touch of sparkles. They carried neutral bouquets that matched the Mynikah. Adrian and his groomsmen wore matching light blue linen suits with white dress shirts. Their boutonnieres featured a soft white ranunculus.
The Maxwell wedding venue is a gorgeous space, perfect for a modern wedding. The Great Room served as a stunning backdrop, with clean and contemporary architecture. Mynikah and Adrian opted to keep their wedding decorations simple and timeless, using candles and greenery to dress up the airy indoor ceremony site. A stone fireplace served as an elegant frame for their vow exchange.
Afterward, the space was quickly flipped for a reception – another benefit of the new Raleigh wedding venue. Round banquet tables were set with elegant wood dining chairs and tall floral arrangements. A sweetheart table was placed in front of the fireplace, decorated with candles and pampas grass. Bright greenery dripped from the modern chandeliers overhead, and the soft light cast a warm glow on their family and friends below.
Their chic blue spring wedding was a stunning celebration, and I wish Mynikah and Adrian a lifetime of joy!
Tell me about your proposal. How did he propose?
We were in Washington for a family Christmas trip and ended up going out to the Seattle Mariner’s Stadium for their Enchanted Christmas event. Mynikah figured we were just going there as a part of the family festivities, but I had bigger plans. So after transversing the stadium lights and holiday music we ended at Santa’s photo booth. Before our picture, he asked us both what we wanted for Christma. Mynikah said she wanted student loan forgiveness (not a bad choice at all), and I told Santa I just wanted her. To help with that wish, good ol’ Saint Nick brought out a ring for me to pop the question….and of course, she said yes.
The proposal would have been impossible if it wasn’t for the help I got from Mynikah’s sisters, Dreema and Keyoshia. Dreema helped me find the right ring and keep Mynikah in the dark. Keyoshia joined in on the festivities once we were all in Washington, creating the master plan of where to propose. The two of them also got the ring to Santa..they rock!
What makes your love special?
It is timeless! We have been together since we were 18 years old. Every day feels like a new adventure filled with excitement.
How did you meet?
We kind of met before my (Adrian’s) freshman year of college. Mynikah sent me a friend request on Facebook and I remember seeing that she was from Tacoma, WA. I thought, where the heck is that? I ended up accepting her friend request, because like all kids headed to college you try and meet people before you get on campus. The first time we actually spoke was after she posted a comment on Facebook talking about her love for Ruby Tuesdays. I hadn’t been there that often, with the last time being when I took my friend to prom – I didn’t remember it being that great. I commented on her status, “Who really loves Ruby Tuesdays this much”. That conversation turned into phone conversations, which turned into us hanging out and going to a party.
